JOYTECH is a collection of 3D models and animations commissioned for the installation by artist Umber Majeed of the same name. The items designed each relate back to themes of "bootleg or counterfeit as a mode of worldbuilding". Items, such as the floppy disk, CD, and spinning word-art, evoke nostalgia for the infancy of the internet, and imagery such as the "sellphone" call back to phone repair shops and what the artist described as "South Asian digital kitsch".
One of the final elements of this project was a collaboration with Looking Glass - a company which specializes in holographic digital displays. The items made thusfar for the digital display were collaged together to form a holographic "fish tank" where guests in the gallery would be able to view them all simultaneously.
